Creem Campaign Announces Support of Alan Khazei

State Senator Cindy Creem (D-Brookline, Newton, Wellesley) announced today that her campaign for re-election had been endorsed by Alan Khazei, the Brookline resident whose 2009 US Senate campaign caught fire in progressive and activist circles throughout Massachusetts.  Khazei, whose outsider bid for office won the endorsement of the Boston Globe, cited Creem's extensive record of progressive leadership in his statement:

"Senator Creem has consistently proven herself to be a champion on Beacon Hill for the issues that matter- education and local aid, health care and the environment, equality and transparency.  In her dedication to public service she has served Newton, Brookline, and Wellesley with distinction for over a decade.  I am so proud to add my voice to the chorus of individuals urging her to continue that work next year."

In addition to galvanizing Democrats throughout the Commonwealth in his Senate race last year, Khazei is the co-founder of City Year, a Boston-based nonprofit organization that promotes civic engagement and social entrepreneurship in young people.  Creem reflected on that history when accepting Khazei's endorsement.

"It is such an honor to win the support of a true community leader like Alan," Creem said.  "The work he has done is truly inspiring- City Year volunteers have taken the lead in community engagement all across America and even around the world.  As we work to address the challenges facing our Commonwealth, it is comforting to know I have a partner in Alan and the young people he has motivated to serve."

Khazei's endorsement is the latest in a string of high-profile statements of support for Creem from elected officials and leaders throughout Massachusetts, including Congressman Barney Frank, Governor Mike Dukakis, Newton Mayor Setti Warren, and all five Selectmen of Brookline.  All have cited Creem's fierce devotion to her district and progressive values as a key factor in making their choice.

The Democratic primary for State Senate will be held September 14th.
