(State House, Boston) — Senator Cynthia Stone Creem (D. Newton) received the Legislator of the Year Award from the Advocates for Autism of Massachusetts at the State House on April 28, 2009.
Senator Creem was recognized for her longstanding advocacy on behalf of children and other individuals diagnosed with autism spectrum disorders, and their families and educators. Senator Creem is the lead sponsor of legislation to increase educational opportunities for autistic and other special needs children, and is also a strong supporter of programs which assist autistic individuals and their families.
“One in 150 children now receives a diagnosis of autism, so this disorder obviously has a wide impact,” said Senator Creem. “I will continue advocating to ensure that individuals receive the educational and medical resources they need to thrive, and that we provide support for the child and the family to create an optimal home environment.”
