May 11, 2009
Senator Cynthia Stone Creem (D-Newton) attended a national conference on May 7-8, hosted by the American Bar Association Presidential Commission on Fair and Impartial State Courts. This conference, “The Critical Role of Fair and Impartial State Courts” was by invitation only, and focused on discussions of best practices for each branch of state government regarding state and local justice systems.
“As Senate Chair of the Joint Committee on the Judiciary, I am eager to learn from the experiences of other states about ways to improve our judicial processes in a fiscally responsible way, while protecting public safety and individual rights,” said Senator Creem.
The Senator participated along with 300 other leaders in state and local judiciary policy, including Margaret Marshall, Chief Justice of the Supreme Judicial Court, and heard an address from former Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor. The goal of the conference is to develop an action plan for all three branches of state governments to review and implement, to increase efficiency and effectiveness through improved allocation of resources.
